When should I start the classes during my pregnancy?
Usually, after you complete 5 months or around 22 -24 weeks. At this stage you probably would have come over nausea and are comfortable also because your belly is still not too big.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
We will try to make you as comfortable as possible but you are welcome to bring cushions and something to munch too!!
Can I bring my husband?
Classes will be most effective when you bring your husband / partner to the classes. We will make sure that his needs are taken care of and he participates and enjoys as much as you will do. Classes are also a great place to network and interact with other couples going through the same experience and you could well make some good friends here.
My husband is out of town/ country and is unable to come to class.
If your husband is unable to come then we will still encourage you to take the classes and we will ensure that you are comfortable. Also if you choose to have anybody else as your support person during labor, then you are most welcome to bring that person too.
What happens in case I am not able to come to a particular class?
In such an instance, we can accommodate you in another class or a one to one class before your group moves to the next class to ensure continuity. However do make sure its only a one off case.
Why choose PreggyJoy Independent classes over Hospital classes?
* Independent educators are trained in childbirth education and are passionate about improving birth outcomes for you. They incorporate a variety of child birthing methods picking out the benefits from each philosophy.
* Independent childbirth educators work for YOU and not for the hospital. In an independent class you will be able to learn about labor support, true informed constant, natural management of pain, evidence based care, importance of breastfeeding and equip you with information to make decisions for the birth of your baby.
* Hospitals classes are more about what their birth policy is and what is offered there and what you are allowed/not allowed to do based on their own 'rules'. Classes are more about what you can expect there regarding pain medication, surgery and about being a good patient.
* Classes sizes are limited to maximum 6 couples unlike 12-15 couples in hospitals which allows for open discussions, greater attention on each couple and flexibility to tune classes with needs of the small group.
* Independent childbirth educators can also accommodate private classes which can work around your preferences and options.
* Independent classes also involves the husband / support partner to a great extent with information and skills on labor support and thereby proving to be a great support for the mother to be and also giving ample opportunity for bonding and intimacy.
